Acer wins Android Netbook Race? To launch first Android Netbook in 09 Q3

While everyone has been trying Android on their netbooks, Acer may win the race to launch first Android based netbook. According to engadget, Acer is going to launch its Android based netbook in Q3 of 2009.  The announcement was made by Acer’s  global president for IT, Jim Wong. The Android netbooks will run Atom and Acer will continue to offer Microsoft OS along with Android builds.

Can Android compete with Microsoft? It would exciting to see who next will announce Android based netbook? Maybe Oracle? Who knows about buying Sun, they might :)

First Android netbook to cost about $250

New Android devices news are pouring in. Earlier, Samsung announced its first Android handset, now Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies Co has annouced availability of first netbook Alpha 680 to run Android mobile operating systems within three months.
According to the article in Computerworld , Alpha 680 uses an ARM11 CPU running at 533 MHz, which is also used in Iphone and Iphone Touch devices. The Alpha 680 will have a 7-in. LCD screen at 800 by 480 pixels, 128MB of DDR2 RAM (expandable to 256 MB) and a 1GB solid-state disk (SSD) drive (expandable to 4 GB, though users can also add storage through the SD card or two USB ports). It will also have built-in Wi-Fi, keyboard and touch pad.

The device is is currently in testing, and final prototypes will be ready by June.

Samsung announces its first Android handset

Today, Samsung officially joined the manufacturers of android handsets. The company annouced its first Android handset. The handset will be launched in Europe in June. The rumors were available on Engadget Mobile site but it has now been officially confirmed. The handset I7500 will feature 3.2 AMOLED screen with WIFI, GPS, 5 megapixel camera and standard 3.5mm headset jack.It will feature quad-band GSM, tri-band 7.2Mbps HSDPA (900/1700/2100MHz).

iPhone vs. Android development

As I was looking for articles comparing android vs iphone development, I came across blogger Ed Burnette and his post titled “iPhone vs. Android development”. The author shares his experiences during his 5 day course on Iphone programming by Joe Conway from Big Nerd Ranch. The post was insightful and very informative. The author is quite knowledgable in Android Development and has even written a book titled “Hello, Android: Introducing Google’s Mobile Development Platform”.
